Best Glue Traps For Rats

When a rat makes a mistake, the other rats in the pack learn from that mistake and rarely repeat it.  That is why we create so many different types of traps to get rid of rats.

When other methods are not working a glue trap may be the solution that works.

Yes, glue traps are not humane, but when you are faced with a rat infestation, your health is the most important concern.

That is why I decided to write a review about the best glue traps for rats, so you can learn why and how you should use them and which ones will give you the best results.

Are Glue Traps Good For Getting Rid Of Rats?

Glue Trap for Rats

In most cases using glue traps to get rid of rats is not the best choice.  Rats and mice can live for several days stuck in a glue trap, which is inhuman.

A better choice is more lethal traps such as Snap Traps and Electronic Zapper Traps that provide a quick kill to minimize the suffering of the animal.

Why Use A Glue Trap If It Is Cruel?

Probably the best and only reason to turn to a glue trap is if you are not having any luck with other trapping methods.

Rats are smart and very cautious animals.  They learn from mistakes in the past and may not be lured by a standard snap trap anymore.

Or the rats have figured out how to steal the bait without setting off the trap which means you are just feeding the rats.

Therefore, under those circumstances, sticky traps are something new to the rats and can be a good option to try.

As long as you keep in mind, that you may have to deal with a live rat stuck to the trap once caught, then go for it!

The most important thing when dealing with a pest problem is to handle it swiftly and minimize the risk to your family’s health and home.

Should Glue Traps Be Used Outside?

In my opinion, if you are targeting rats, glue traps should not be used outside.

Using a glue trap outdoors can lead to targeting the wrong animal such as an Owl, Hawk, or snake which are all natural predators of rats.

Also, most glue traps do not work well if they get wet since it will decrease the effectiveness of the glue significantly.

If you come in contact with the glue or would like to free a live animal from a glue trap, you can use vegetable or mineral oil to remove the trap from your skin or the animal’s fur.

Be cautious when working with live animals such as rats, since harmful diseases like Rat-Bit Fever can be transmitted through a bite or scratch from an infected live or dead rat.

How To Use Glue Traps

Glue traps are best placed on travel routes, in corners, and near holes where you have rat activity.

When the rat comes along, it will step onto the trap, get stuck in a very sticky glue, and then slowly die or can be released from the trap using vegetable oil.

Keep in mind rats need to be released far from your home and there may be laws on catch and release in your area.

Place several glue traps in a row every foot or two. try using Craft Tacky Putty to secure the trap to the ground.

Many of the glue traps come with a pre-baited peanut butter scent which helps attract rats.

Alternatively, you can use a small amount of peanut butter as bait in the center of the trap to encourage rats to walk into the trap.

After a day or two if a rat is not caught, move the glue traps to a new location.

Glue traps are also effective at getting rid of other small pests such as insects, spiders, lizards, scorpions, and cockroaches.

Let’s take a look at the comparison of different glue traps for rats.

Glue Traps can be an effective way to get rid of mice but, they are not the most humane.
